Pembroke tables originated in England during the mid-18th century and became highly fashionable during the Georgian and Regency periods. Named after the Countess of Pembroke who reportedly first ordered such a design, these compact tables featured hinged leaves that could be raised for dining or entertaining and lowered to save space.
