Error Coin, The Sacagawea dollar was introduced by the United States Mint in 2000 to honor the Shoshone woman who aided the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The coin features Sacagawea carrying her infant son Jean Baptiste on the obverse, designed by sculptor Glenna Goodacre, with a soaring eagle on the reverse. The coin is made of a manganese-brass alloy that gives it a distinctive golden color. Sacagawea dollars appeal to numismatists and coin collectors who appreciate modern U.S. coinage, Native American history, and commemorative pieces. While most circulated examples hold minimal premium over face value, error coins, proof versions, and coins in pristine uncirculated condition attract dedicated collectors. The coin represents an important chapter in American numismatic history and continues to be produced annually with rotating reverse designs since 2009.
